I want you to know that in our greatest disappointment, we can not only make it through, but we can be stronger on the other side of it––by the grace of God! Whatever your circumstance, I want you to know God is with you!
I learned this deeply when I went through a hard time. With God, I got through it with unexplainable joy amidst tragedy.
Here are 5 steps to help you get through a hard time
1. Put a bouncer at your door
What does that mean? The same way a “bouncer” keeps uninvited people out of places, keep out media and thoughts that will take you to a darker place. For example, watching movies dealing with death or other heavy themes might not put you in the best place emotionally. Thoe “sad” emotions can take over if you let them.
2. Trade in worry
The Bible says “The prayers of the righteous have great power,” and, “Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray.” When we feel anxious, worried or overloaded, simply talk to God. Pray about your situation.
“Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done.” Philippians 4:6
3. Remind yourself of who you are in Him
You are still here. Your identity is not defined by a trial, but by who you are in Him. Remember how He has come through for you. Remind yourself of His faithfulness, His goodness, His love for you. That will never change.
“And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love.” Romans 8:38
Take time to spend with God–even if it feels like you’re not getting something “done”. It’s so important. “Be still and know that I am God.”
“Come to me all who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart and you will find rest for your souls.” Matthew 11:28-29
5. Read and Listen
You may have heard this a million and one times, but consistently reading the Bible will not only challenge you in new ways but this will intentionally make you think more positively. Hearing it replaces lie and doubt for faith.
As fear, lies, and hopelessness try and invade our thoughts, especially during these difficult times, the Bible says the Shield of Faith extinguishes fiery darts of the enemy (i.e., lies).
“In addition to all of these, hold up the shield of faith to stop the fiery arrows of the devil.” Ephesians 6:16
God is for you, He is not against you.
I pray you experience God’s love on a whole new level and are comforted by His peace.
