I want to tell you a story. I’m the girl who grew up in church. I saw miracles, learned about the Bible and had a personal relationship with God. Along the way somewhere, though, I allowed myself to start thinking inside the box when it came to “ministry”. I thought ministry needed look like this at this place at this time
Thankfully, I acquired a new perspective, new eyes, if you will. It was as if one day God revealed it to me. I was reminded of people I knew of who were not preachers but were still being Jesus to people in seemingly unconventional ways. It didn’t look like what I knew. The message is the same. The approach is different. You can pray with a hurting person at on the street.
Jesus’ ministry took place everywhere He went.
The same Holy Spirit who was with Jesus is in us. Jesus prayed for people on the street, at a pool, in crowds… Ministry doesn’t have to be limited to a time or place.
We have opportunities to be Jesus to people all the time.
Someone needs encouragement. Someone has been burned. Love is powerful. People need to experience it. Kindness leads us to repentance.
One time I sat next to a girl on a plane and we started making conversation. We began talking about God and then she said she was a lesbian. She said when this news came out she was rejected by her church very harshly. I was honestly moved to tears a bit because it was evident she was hurt so deeply and turned off to anything that had to do with Christianity due to this particular experience. She was rejected by an institution whose call is to love and restore. I told her I was sorry. I told her God still loved her. (Airplane landed.)
She had been casted out. But His arms are open.
We may not know what’s going on in another person’s heart. God does. He can use you to bring someone closer to Him. Be genuine. Be relatable. Share your heart with someone. Let someone share theirs with you. I encourage you to take opportunities to show the love of Jesus, even if it seems a bit unconventional.
“For God so loved the world, He gave His only Son, that whoever believes in Him will not perish but have eternal life.” John 3:16
